Introducing AI Photo Culling
News
Cull Smarter. Deliver Faster.
AI-Powered Culling Built for Real Photographers — Now in Lightroom Classic
Whether you’re editing weddings, portraits, events, or anything in between, Impossible Things Culling is designed to eliminate the most time-consuming part of your workflow: sorting through thousands of images to find the best ones.
Built by photographers and optimized for real-world use, this tool runs directly inside Lightroom Classic and delivers fast, explainable, and contextually-aware culling — all without leaving your existing workflow.

What Makes It Different?
Unlike generic AI tools that treat every photo the same, Impossible Things is built to think more like a photographer. It doesn’t just look at sharpness or exposure — it understands context, emotion, and storytelling. It knows who’s in the photo, what’s happening, and what matters.
Here are just a few things that set it apart:
Contextually Aware Selection

The system can recognize what’s happening and who’s involved — whether it’s a bride walking down the aisle, a couple’s first kiss, or a group of kids playing soccer. It understands context like Ceremony, Reception, Portraits, and more — so selections aren’t just technically strong, they’re emotionally accurate.
Smart Detection of Closed Eyes
Our AI intelligently detects unintentional blinks or half-closed eyes and removes them from your selects — while allowing for natural moments like kisses or emotional expressions (like laughter or tears) where closed eyes are intentional and part of the story.
FAST Live Culling in Lightroom
Cull thousands of images in minutes, with performance built for high-volume, directly inside Lightroom Classic without disrupting your catalog or workflow. See results in real time, with selections, groupings, and metadata saved right into your existing workspace.
Duplicate Detection with Group Awareness
Duplicates are automatically identified and labeled. The system keeps the strongest version of each moment, while ensuring key expressions and individuals are preserved, especially in group portraits.
Blurry Photo Awareness
While the AI flags technically poor images, it’s designed to under-cull rather than over-cull. The system is intentionally conservative — preserving unique frames and unconventional shots that may still matter. For example, a slightly blurry image might be kept if it’s the only one of a meaningful moment — like a father’s emotional reaction or a fleeting hug during the ceremony.
Intelligent Grouping with Explainable AI
The system groups images by moment, selects the best in each set, and automatically sorts Selected, Duplicates, and Rejected images into Lightroom Smart Collections. At the end, a culling report is generated, explaining WHY each image was chosen.

Privacy-First Architecture
Files are never stored. Data is auto-deleted within 24 hours, and nothing is mined for training without consent.
How It Works
Start culling in minutes — no complicated setup, no app switching.
Step 1: Select Your Images
In Lightroom Classic, highlight the images you want to cull from your current catalog or imported shoot.
Step 2: Launch the Culling Tool
Go to File > Plug-in Extras > Impossible Things > Cull Photos to begin. You’ll be prompted to choose how selected and rejected images are labeled or rated.
Step 3: Let the AI Do the Work
The system groups similar images, evaluates technical and visual qualities, and selects the strongest photos in each set — all within seconds.
Step 4: Review the Smart Collections
Your images are sorted into Selected, Duplicates, and Rejected folders inside Lightroom for fast review. You’ll also see descriptive Smart Collections for each group or sequence.
Step 5: Check the Culling Report (Optional)
Dive into the detailed report to understand the rationale behind each selection — giving you full transparency and trust in every decision.
